Dear Friends:
Four years ago, in 2004, I set out to seek the Office
of Lake County State's Attorney. With the support
and confidence of my family and friends who contributed
to my efforts, I nearly accomplished what few thought
was remotely possible. I attained almost 45% of the
vote in what had long been a Republican stronghold.
Since 2004, the number of Democrats in Lake County
has continued to grow. At the same time, high-ranking
officials from the Democratic Party, elected officials
and community leaders have continued to voice their
support for me to once again seek this office.
I have resided in Lake County nearly my entire life.
Because of my strong showing in 2004, my ongoing commitment
to improve Lake County and the support of the various
elected officials and leaders, I decided to renew
my bid to bring about change in the political landscape.
I do not take this decision lightly.
In the February primary, my vote totals exceeded those
of my opponent by a margin of 1.6 to 1. While this
margin is no guarantee of what may happen in November's
general election, it suggests that Lake County residents
are ready for a change in leadership in the State's
Attorney's Office, as they were in 2006 when they
elected a Democrat as Sheriff and in 2004 when they
elected a Democrat to be Coroner.
As a career public servant, I have acquired over twenty-one
years of experience as an Assistant State's Attorney
in our state's largest county: Cook County. During
my career, I have worked tirelessly as a criminal
prosecutor and as a civil attorney charged with protecting
public interests and funds. I have the experience
required to be Lake County's top legal official. Under
my direction the State's Attorney's Office will deliver
compassion and sensitivity to victims of crime. Moreover,
we will act to ensure that the Office is more efficient,
cost effective and accountable.
While the encouragement of the Party leaders and other
officials has been inspiring, it is not enough. My
ultimate success is dependent on the support and trust
of the community. If you believe in the kind of honest
change I am proposing, I would be honored to have
your support in achieving my goal.
In closing, I wish to state that I am thankful for
those who have supported me in the past. I am hopeful
that you will continue to support me. For those that
are interested in joining the team, I welcome you
and thank you in advance for your future assistance.
